The Federal Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump for the first time at the White House next week. Previously, they only communicated by phone. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday and will conclude with a joint lunch and press briefing. Merz will be staying at the presidential guest house 'Blair House' right next to the White House during his time in Washington. Due to Germany's leading role in the peace negotiations regarding the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, Friedrich Merz plans to take an active part in the process, hoping for the support of the European Union and maintaining a close partnership with the United States.
