Kyiv Region Mayor Detained in Fraud Case

According to Novyny.live: Authorities have charged a mayor from a town in the Kyiv region with causing over 1.3 million hryvnias in damages through fraudulent landscaping contracts. Detectives from the Strategic Investigations Department, working alongside prosecutors, uncovered a scheme where false data was inserted into official documents to inflate the cost of services.

According to investigators, key documents were missing from the paperwork, highlighting the severity of the violation. Budget funds intended for landscaping were transferred to a contractor’s accounts, resulting in significant financial losses.

Budget Fund Mismanagement Exposed

In a related development, the deputy general director of the municipal enterprise 'Kyivzelenbud' has also been notified of suspicion for declaring false information worth over 9.6 million hryvnias. This indicates a systemic pattern of budget misuse in the landscaping sector.

The charges carry a potential penalty of up to 12 years in prison. Additionally, separate offenses have come to light: a former official from the National Security and Defense Council, along with a group of businessmen, illegally seized an unfinished complex of the Republican Clinical Hospital and a 21-hectare land plot. This scheme began in 2006, raising concerns about the duration and scale of corruption in this area.

The events unfolding in the Kyiv region point to deep-seated issues in the management of budget funds, particularly in landscaping projects.

These violations suggest possible systemic weaknesses in oversight of budget program execution. Given the seriousness of the allegations, these cases could mark a significant step in combating local-level corruption and boosting public trust in government institutions.
