Metro Bank blocks customer payments: due to a technical glitch, funds are disappearing.
Problems with METRO Bank payment services
According to The Sun: METRO Bank is currently facing serious difficulties with its payment services.
Customers are reporting duplicate payments, resulting in some of them ending up with negative balances in their accounts.
Some Metro Bank customers are left without money in their accountsGettyOne customer wrote on Facebook:
“Anyone having issues with Metro Bank this morning? I’ve had all my money taken and same with some friends and family.”
Another user noted on X.com:
“What on earth is going on with the app this morning and why is my balance showing -£99?”
A third added:
“My partner's got the same issue and he’s out working 14 hours without any food & can’t buy any.”
One commentator said:
“What is going on? All my transactions duplicated and is leaving me in minus/no access to funds.”
A customer even mentioned that they lost one working day because of this issue, calling it
“completely unacceptable.”
On the bank's service status webpage, there is a message:
“Our payment services are currently unavailable. We’re working to fix the problem and have them up and running as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.”
The bank also noted that it is receiving a large volume of calls on its hotlines.
On the outage monitoring website DownDetector, about 100 complaints regarding issues with payment systems have been recorded.
Reports of problems started coming in around 6 AM.
The Sun newspaper has reached out to Metro Bank for comment.
This situation has raised concerns among bank customers who rely on payment services for daily financial transactions. In response, the bank is trying to resolve the issue quickly; however, the uncertainty regarding the restoration of services continues to instill worry among users. We hope that the situation stabilizes soon and customers can again use banking services without interruption.
