The Situation in Mezhova

According to TSN.ua: Located on the border of the Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions, the community of Mezhova has been transformed into an active combat zone due to relentless shelling. Consequently, the majority of the settlement's roughly 20,000 residents have been evacuated to the city of Dnipro. To provide administrative services, a dedicated support center named 'Mezhova Hub' has been established in Dnipro.

Today, only about 1,200 people remain within the community's territory, with a mere 500 residing in Mezhova itself. The situation is severely compounded by daily artillery strikes; in the village of Novopidhorodne, for instance, not a single house remains intact.

As local resident Anatolii Kobachevskyi recounted, 'My wife had a hypertensive crisis; she suffers from diabetes and had an insulin crisis. KABs [guided aerial bombs] were flying, drones were flying. If I had stayed with her there another day or two, she would have died there.'

According to Volodymyr Zrazhevskyi, 'These are FPV drones, 'Molniya' systems, and then 'Shaheds.' But the KABs cause the greatest devastation. The area is shelled daily; we count up to 20 impacts.' The newly created hub in Dnipro is equipped with computers, printers, and cameras, enabling it to deliver essential services to those forced from their homes. This region has been on the front line of Russia's full-scale invasion, enduring immense pressure since early in the war.

The Aftermath of Military Action

Russian military forces began destroying the Mezhova community in the spring of 2022. Despite the dire conditions, local residents continue to hold onto hope for recovery and are making plans for 'after the war.' The situation in the region remains tense, and the community's inhabitants are in urgent need of support.

The plight of Mezhova starkly illustrates the consequences of warfare on civilians, particularly on infrastructure and public health. The establishment of the 'Mezhova Hub' in Dnipro underscores the critical need for support and adaptation to new living conditions for displaced persons. Sustaining those who remain in the combat zone is vital, as they face constant threats and require assistance in meeting basic needs and accessing medical care.
