No Major Road Overhauls in Mykolaiv for 2026: $1.2M Allocated for Pothole Patching.
Mykolaiv's 2026 Pothole Repair Plan
According to Novyny.live: In 2026, the city of Mykolaiv will not carry out any major road reconstructions. Instead, nearly 45 million Ukrainian hryvnias (around $1.2 million) have been set aside for pothole repairs, to be handled by a municipal utility company. The total budget for these repairs is exactly 44,859,369 UAH. According to official reports, this funding will cover the repair of 22,028 square meters of road surface, with an average cost of 2,036.43 UAH per square meter.
Breakdown of Pothole Repair Work
The pothole repair initiative targets various locations across Mykolaiv. Key details include:
- Bohoyavlenskyi Avenue: 4,000 m² planned, with 600 m² already completed at a cost of 900,000 UAH.
- Tsentralnyi Avenue: 1,500 m² planned, of which 1,000 m² have been finished for 1.5 million UAH.
- Kosmonavtiv Street: 1,000 m² scheduled, with 200 m² done at a cost of 350,000 UAH.
- Myru Avenue: 1,000 m² planned, with 150 m² completed for 280,000 UAH.
- Pohranychna Street: 800 m² planned, with 100 m² finished at a cost of 185,000 UAH.
- Khersonske Highway: 550 m² planned, but work has not yet started.
As a result, Mykolaiv will focus its 2026 road budget entirely on pothole patching, spending significant sums without any plans for capital repairs. This approach highlights a shift toward short-term fixes rather than long-term infrastructure investment.
The absence of major road overhauls in Mykolaiv in 2026 may point to limited financial resources or local authorities prioritizing quick, temporary solutions over durable upgrades.
While pothole repairs are essential for maintaining drivability, they fail to address underlying infrastructure issues in the long run, potentially leading to further road deterioration. Monitoring the progress and effectiveness of these planned works will be crucial for assessing the future condition of Mykolaiv's road network.
