The Ministry of Defense reported on the positions women in the army are applying for.
In recent years, more and more women want to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine and choose professions that were long considered exclusively male. Among such professions are snipers, medics, and UAV operators. This was announced by the representative of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Bezhovets.
According to him, the active involvement of women in the AFU is particularly evident in the Sumy region. There, every third application to recruiting centers comes from women. In addition, women make up a third of all candidates with whom recruiting centers work to fill positions.
Contrary to common stereotypes, women in the army are not only engaged in administrative work. They can hold any positions, including military specialties. Among the popular fields for women are snipers, UAV operators, and medics.
A large number of women also express a desire to serve in the AFU in Chernihiv region. Many units are open there where women can hold various positions.
Starting from May 18, 2024, a new mobilization law will come into effect, introducing mandatory military registration for certain categories of women. Such women are required to undergo a medical examination and possess a medical or pharmaceutical specialty. Women with other specialties and professions related to military registration may voluntarily register for military service. However, they can only be called up to the army or involved in work to ensure Ukraine's defense at their own request.
It is also worth noting that one of the servicewomen, who was mobilized as a medic, reported sexual harassment during her service.
