Mobilization of men aged 50+: who can be drafted and to which positions.
According to ТСН: In Ukraine, general mobilization continues and martial law has been introduced. Drafted individuals include military personnel and reservists aged from 18 to 60 years, however, there are special conditions for men over 50.
Men aged from 25 to 60 can be mobilized if they are not entitled to deferment or are not excluded from military registration. According to the law "On Mobilization Preparation", the duties of military personnel are outlined in Article 22, and the grounds for deferment are in Article 23. Currently, there are no official norms regarding deferments for men over 50, so these individuals can be drafted if they are fit for service.
If a man has a significant military specialty and good health, he can be drafted even at 58-59 years old. Nevertheless, such soldiers are usually not sent to the front line or assault units. The mobilization of men over 55 mostly concerns replenishing support units, thus they are often assigned tasks in the rear.
Individuals who have reservations, grounds for deferment, or are discharged from military service are temporarily exempt from mobilization.
Men are also exempt from mobilization if they:
are unfit for service due to health reasons
have any group of disability
are raising three or more children under 18 years old
are caring for relatives with disabilities
belong to other categories
Men over 60 can serve in the military only on a voluntary basis. They have developed a program called Contract 60+, which allows participation in service in non-combat positions under certain conditions.
It should be noted that no new amendments to the law "On Mobilization" have been adopted since December and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine's Resolution No. 560 remains unchanged, so the rules for drafting and granting deferments remain in effect. However, there are innovations regarding the reservation of employees of state authorities, local self-government, enterprises, and organizations.
This information is important for those who may be subject to drafting, as the rules and conditions of mobilization are still relevant. Citizens of Ukraine should be aware of the changes to understand their rights and obligations during mobilization.
