Research: 28% of travelers believe solo trips are better than group travel.
Advantages of Traveling Alone
According to The Sun: Traveling alone has many advantages: you can explore new places at your own pace, choose restaurants without any compromises, and enjoy silence when you want.
A study conducted among 1000 adults who traveled alone showed that over a quarter of respondents (28%) prefer this form of relaxation over trips with a partner, family, or friends.
The study was initiated by Travelzoo to celebrate the launch of the 'Solo September' campaign.Among other benefits of solo trips are the lack of responsibility for others and more opportunities to meet new people, stepping outside of your comfort zone.
The main reason people decide to travel alone is the desire to treat themselves (47%), while the desire to try something new (31%) and the opportunity to relax (29%) are also significant.
The 'Solo September' campaign by Travelzoo aims to encourage more people to travel alone by offering useful tips and attractive deals for travelers.
Travelzoo collaborates with presenter and active traveler Linda Robson, who confidently stated:
“Traveling alone, I can say I enjoyed it immensely. You can do whatever you want, choose restaurants to your taste and go to bed when you want. The freedom is amazing, and after numerous trips with family or in groups, I find that solo trips are incredibly inspiring and a great way to step outside your boundaries.”
Among those who have experienced both solo and group trips, 53% noted the flexibility while 51% cited the freedom they feel during solo travels.
More than 28% of travelers felt 'free' just a few days before their last trip, while almost half (48%) admitted they were excited.
Reflecting on their recent trips, 27% admitted they gained more confidence, and 25% noted that it reminded them of what they are capable of.
This shows that 49% of individuals dared to dine alone in a restaurant for the first time, something they usually would not do.
As for destinations, 59% chose short trips in Europe for their last solo travels, while 10% ventured further to Asia or North America.
The most popular types of solo vacations were city tours (45%), quiet beaches with a book (36%), and cultural culinary tours (26%).
More than three-quarters (78%) stayed in hotels while traveling solo, while 21% opted to stay with friends or in the homes of locals, according to data from OnePoll.com.
The study also showed that 45% of travelers consider the 'solo traveler app' unfair and off-putting, while 33% include it in their budget, and 18% noted they have never encountered it during their travels.
Nevertheless, over 77% agree that solo travel is something everyone should try at least once.
Kat Jordan from Travelzoo added:
“It's wonderful to see people become more confident after solo travel. Regardless of the reasons that prompted you to embark on a solo trip, it instills a sense of power and achievement, showing that you don’t need a companion for amazing experiences. Solo travel can bring more freedom, and thus more adventures.”Kat Jordan from Travelzoo noted that solo travel helps increase confidence.
Thus, the study results confirm that traveling alone can be not only a way to relax but also an opportunity to gain new experiences and boost self-confidence. The 'Solo September' campaign and other initiatives can encourage people to discover new horizons and enjoy the freedom that solo travel offers.
