The Best Airport in the UK

According to The Sun: The list of the best airports in the UK has been released in Ukraine, and I am not at all surprised that my home airport took first place.

Gatwick Airport has been recognized as the best in the UK, and considering that it is my local airport, I understand why.

Gatwick's Success

In 2025, the Tourism Industry Award (TIA) named Gatwick Airport the best in the UK and Ireland, which reaffirms why I choose it.

It is located just an hour's drive away, and I probably come here at least once a month.

This is not only because of work that requires frequent travels but also due to a wide range of flight destinations.

I have already visited Singapore, the island of Cape Verde, and Senegal, as well as short visits to the Algarve, Madrid, and even Marrakech.

This month I plan a trip to Peru via Gatwick with a short connection in Spain.

Many people think that for long-haul trips, you need to go to the huge London Heathrow, but I will always choose Gatwick if the opportunity arises.

Future Opportunities

With the construction of a new second runway costing £2.2 billion, the airport will be able to accommodate millions of new passengers.

Although new destinations have not been announced yet ahead of the 2029 opening, this could mean even more flights, especially to Asia and Africa.

Gatwick certainly lacks some destinations that Heathrow has, such as Seoul in South Korea and Tokyo in Japan, as well as South American countries like Brazil and Argentina.

But it is not only the variety of flights that makes this airport my favorite.

It is pleasant to take the free shuttle between terminals if you arrived at South and suddenly need to get to North.

Convenience and Service

I always see kids eagerly boarding the front car, watching the monorail racing between the terminals in two minutes.

Even at security check, I have never encountered long lines, usually passing through in a few minutes.

While I understand that this is not always the case, especially during peak summer holidays, I am always disappointed when I arrive three hours before the flight and spend two and a half hours at security.

But after passing security, easy navigation through the terminal allows me to stick to my usual routine.

It is impressive to have a clear terminal, as I often get lost in other airports due to their size and complexity.

I like that I can quickly navigate the terminal, unlike other airports where it's easy to get lost.

First, I head to the numerous water fountains to fill up the bottle I had to empty at security.

(But this will soon change due to new rules lifting liquid restrictions).

Then I go to the Boots store to buy forgotten items and get my usual lunch (you can't go without it – so pick up the Korean rice dish, Hula Hoops, and a CBD drink – it's the best for flights if you have a weak stomach).

After stopping at WHSmith, depending on the company, I either buy coffee at Pret and look for a place or enjoy morning Prosecco with friends at Wetherspoons airport.

Also, save money on magazines – Gatwick practically always has free publications like Evening Standard and Stylist.

And even if your flight is early in the morning, the airport offers great hotels that won't break the bank.

There is YOTELAIR with spaceship-style rooms near the terminal transfer for about £105 per night.

Or located just next to security is Bloc, with prices starting from £96 per night, with free fast-track security if you sign up for their free program.

And near the terminal is Premier Inn, the largest in the UK (and I've written about it before).

“Strong examples of innovation and outstanding customer service make this airport worthy of winner status.”

Traveling through airports has never been thrilling – but as someone who travels more than ten times a year, Gatwick makes it a little easier.

While it may not be perfect, I will always choose London Gatwick for my travels.
