According to The Sun: When I saw a huge elephant calmly emerging from the bushes onto the road, I stopped, and the drivers around me patiently waited until this powerful animal disappeared into the forest.

Exotic animals can appear even in familiar places in Sri Lanka, particularly near the beach of my hotel, Sun Siyam Pasikudah, where I woke up to the sounds of birds singing and calmed myself with the mournful sounds of frogs.

The hotel offers a wide range of excursions that allow you to immerse yourself in local life, making it an ideal place for those who want to see the true face of Sri Lanka.

Excursions and traditions

During my vacation, I visited the majestic Sigiriya rock, the Dambulla temples with their luxurious frescoes, and went on a real safari where I could observe baby elephants. However, the biggest revelation for me was the impromptu excursions, including a culinary masterclass at a local market.

With a plethora of fresh produce, we chose the ingredients ourselves to prepare traditional dishes. After that, we learned how to cook spicy curry on the beach, which became a highlight of our journey.

If you don’t want to explore actively, I recommend trying a traditional breakfast with delicious hoppers, fried eggs, and curry.

My vacation also included a trip to the Maldives, where the clear blue sea became a true paradise.

Trip to the Maldives

The airport in Colombo is just an hour and a half flight from the Maldives, where the Sun Siyam has five resorts. The largest of them, Olhuveli, is located on three islands and is the only one accessible by boat from the mainland.

Surrounded by crystal-clear waters, the resort offers plenty of opportunities for snorkeling and water sports, as well as exquisite dining.

Here, everyone can find a piece of paradise with active recreation, culinary masterpieces, and breathtaking natural landscapes.

During my stay at the resorts in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, observing exotic animals became an unforgettable experience - even encounters with elephants on the road became a symbol of my wonderful vacation.
