New Year's prices for sweets will skyrocket: experts explain why

According to ТСН: In Ukraine, prices for confectionery continue to rise due to inflation. However, during the New Year holidays, a significant price increase is possible.

This was reported by manufacturers and industry experts.

Situation Assessment

The president of the association 'Ukrkondprom', Oleksandr Baldinyuk, noted that the increase in confectionery prices will occur gradually, rather than sharply. It is expected that prices will rise by about 1-2% per month, in line with overall inflation.

'I don't think there will be any sharp increases. The growth dynamics of production costs surpasses the price increases for consumers. We cannot fully offset the increase in production costs through price hikes on store shelves,' said Baldinyuk.

Therefore, with an anticipated annual inflation rate of 15%, confectionery products may become more expensive by approximately the same amount over the year. However, due to the gradual nature of this process, consumers will not feel a significant blow to their wallets.

Market Condition

This opinion is supported by the vice president of the All-Ukrainian Bakers Association, Oleksandr Taranenko.

'The market is currently quite stable. There is indeed a certain increase and rise in production costs, but there aren't so many of them as to create a panic,' he noted.

However, it is worth remembering that a significant price increase is possible during the New Year holidays when demand traditionally rises.

Global Trends

In addition, global problems in the chocolate market are noted. Cocoa prices have fallen to their lowest level since February 2024.

Data shows that bean deliveries to ports exceed 100,000 tons for three consecutive weeks, which may indicate a stable supply. For instance, on November 24, prices decreased by 2.7% (down to 60% from the record level established in December). This is linked to forecasts of a large global surplus due to improved production and declining demand.

Overall, the situation in the confectionery market in Ukraine remains under control, but it is important to be prepared for potential price changes, especially during the pre-New Year period. Consumers will benefit from monitoring price fluctuations to plan their expenses during the holiday season.
