In Chernihiv region, a cemetery where Holodomor victims are buried has been destroyed: authorities' response.
Verification of the legality of the local authorities' actions regarding work at the burial site of Holodomor victims
The head of the Chernihiv OVA Vyacheslav Chaus ordered a verification of the legality of the local authorities' actions concerning the operation of machinery at the possible burial site of Holodomor victims in the village of Ivkivtsi of the Ladan community. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing Chaus's statements in his Telegram channel.
Chaus reported that he tasked the head of the Priluky RDA to immediately gather community representatives and relevant specialists to thoroughly study the situation. At the same time, he instructed law enforcement agencies to verify the legality of the actions of the local authorities in this case.
It should be noted that in the village of Ivkivtsi in the Chernihiv region, a cemetery where Holodomor victims are buried has been destroyed. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing the National Museum of Holodomor.
The village head Roman Yuvchenko explained that work at the cemetery site is being conducted by the decision of the executive committee according to the beautification program.
According to Yuvchenko, in accordance with the territorial community's plan, the area where the land leveling work is being conducted does not have the status of a cemetery. This work was carried out on a part of the old cemetery, where there are no signs of burials.
The National Museum of Holodomor-Genocide contacted the head of the Ladan territorial community and the head of the Priluky district state administration with a message about the value and importance of preserving this burial site from the Holodomor period. They also requested to restore the beautification of the memorial territory as much as possible and to mark it.
