Negligence Charges in Kharkiv Region

According to Novyny.live: A supervision engineer in the Kharkiv region has been formally charged with negligence in connection with road repair work. The alleged violations caused the local community to lose almost 1.5 million hryvnias. The suspect has already fully compensated the losses and additionally transferred 150,000 hryvnias to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, a contract for road surface repairs was signed in June 2023. However, an expert examination revealed that the top asphalt layer did not meet state standards. As a result, the contractor received an overpayment of nearly 1.5 million hryvnias, raising suspicions about the engineer's oversight role.

Corruption Schemes in the Region

The engineer faces charges under Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which covers official negligence. The investigation also uncovered that in 2023, an accountant transferred funds to a contractor in violation of a heating system modernization agreement, causing damages exceeding 600,000 hryvnias.

These cases highlight growing concerns over road repair and financial mismanagement in the Kharkiv region. Notably, a district council deputy has also been accused of misappropriating municipal property worth over 14.5 million hryvnias, pointing to a broader pattern of corruption in the area.

Incidents of official negligence leading to significant financial losses underscore the urgent need for stricter oversight of budget spending. Systemic corruption issues in the region demand immediate action to restore public trust in local authorities and ensure efficient use of funds for infrastructure projects.

Monitoring the progress of these investigations and subsequent law enforcement actions will be crucial in preventing similar cases in the future.
