Pension Fraud Following Mother's Death

According to Novyny.live: A 48-year-old resident of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi in the Odesa region hid the death of his mother in June 2024 to illegally collect her pension payments. According to the Odesa Regional National Police, he failed to report her passing to the authorities. As a result, from June 2024 until October 2025, he fraudulently obtained over 72,000 hryvnias in pension funds.

Evading Military Mobilization

The man also exploited the situation to avoid military conscription. His deferment from mobilization was valid until November 2025, allowing him to shirk his military duties while simultaneously benefiting from the illicit pension income. This case highlights the severe legal consequences for those attempting to exploit administrative systems during wartime.

The suspect has been formally charged with misappropriation of property through fraud and evasion of military conscription. The charges carry a potential prison sentence of up to five years, indicating the gravity of the offenses. This incident underscores the challenges authorities face in maintaining the integrity of social and military systems during a national crisis.

This case illustrates the broader issues of military service evasion and fraud within social benefit systems.

During periods of armed conflict and mobilization, such acts can undermine public trust in social security and create significant burdens for law enforcement. Investigating these crimes is a crucial step in upholding the rule of law and ensuring fairness across the country.
