The assault occurred on Friday at a bus stop on Kurpińskiego Street. The man witnessed three individuals verbally and physically attacking a Ukrainian teen and stepped in, only to become a victim himself. He reported the incident to the police on Saturday evening. Poland’s Deputy Interior Minister Czesław Mroczek confirmed that hate crimes have risen by 30%—from 760 in 2024 to 1,200 in 2025.

Violent Incidents

According to official data, on May 7, five teenagers attacked three Ukrainian boys in Warsaw, leaving 16-year-old Artem with a diagnosed skull fracture. Another incident occurred on July 4 in Wrocław, where a group of about ten local peers beat 19-year-old Volodymyr, a Ukrainian. On July 12 in Bielsko-Biała, a man verbally abused three Ukrainian women on a bus, leading to his dismissal from his job.

• On July 19, an adult man beat a 15-year-old Ukrainian boy on a bus simply for speaking his native language.
• In the first half of the year, Ukrainians filed 180 reports of hate-motivated attacks—a one-third increase compared to the same period last year.
