Stefanchuk on the referendum: there can only be one question.
The possibility of holding a referendum in Ukraine
According to ТСН: Only one question can be put to the all-Ukrainian referendum: do you support a peace agreement?
This was stated by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk during a meeting with advisers on national security from European countries in Kyiv.
“Questions related to the Constitution of Ukraine cannot be the subject of either an all-Ukrainian referendum or any other referendum. The only question of the referendum can be: do you support the agreement or not,” said the parliament speaker.
Stefanchuk reminded that for Ukraine “any expression of the people's will, be it a referendum or elections, has two components - security and democratic.”
“Ukraine is definitely not Russia, and we do not need elections or referendums at any cost... Therefore, elections and referendums will only be held when they meet all democratic and security standards,” emphasized the head of the Verkhovna Rada.
It is also important to note that the Verkhovna Rada is considering the possibility of holding elections within 90 days after a ceasefire.
Ruslan Stefanchuk's statements emphasize that the importance of security and democratic standards remains a priority for Ukraine, especially in the face of modern challenges. Elections and referendums, according to him, must be held under proper conditions so that the people's expression of will is a true manifestation of democracy, not a formality.
