On Wednesday, July 23, tragic events occurred in the Sumy region due to explosive objects. A 14-year-old boy and a 30-year-old sergeant of the State Emergency Service were killed. Oleg Grygorov, the head of the Sumy regional military administration, confirmed this information on Telegram.
Death due to explosive objects
'In the Sumy district, a 14-year-old boy, out of curiosity or ignorance, found an unknown object on the street and picked it up. It exploded. Unfortunately, the child could not be saved,' Grygorov explained.
In the Shostka district, a sergeant of the State Emergency Service tragically died while participating in humanitarian demining. The rescuer was trying to neutralize a Russian drone.
Consequences of the war
Oleg Grygorov noted that due to the prolonged war, the Sumy region has become dangerous due to leftover ammunition.
'Rescuers and sapper teams are constantly conducting humanitarian demining. However, even after clearing, the threat remains,' he emphasized.
Occupants fire upon the Sumy region daily, posing a danger to people. It is not uncommon for munitions not to explode immediately.
Grygorov urged citizens:
- do not touch suspicious objects;
- avoid approaching and touching them;
- in case of detection, immediately inform emergency services by calling 101 or 102.
It is also important to conduct preventive conversations with children about the dangers of explosive objects.
'We are working on attracting additional international missions for demining to reduce the threat to the residents of the region. Take care of yourself and your loved ones,' Grygorov added.
It was also noted that the problem of mines in the sea remains relevant for Odesa and other Black Sea countries.
Actions to prevent explosive situations and humanitarian demining remain relevant due to the prolonged war and the threat to the civilian population. It is necessary to follow the experts' guidelines and avoid contact with dangerous objects for your own safety and the safety of loved ones.Read also
