Every day at 9 a.m., Ukrainians honor the memory of all those whose lives were taken by the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today we remember Bohdan Markevych.

As a result of an enemy attack on September 28, 2024, a serviceman, a lecturer at the Faculty of Journalism at Lviv National University named after Ivan Franko, Bohdan Markevych, died. This was reported by the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine.

Bohdan Markevych was born on September 4, 1986, in the village of Ostalovychi, Lviv region. He studied at secondary school No. 95, then entered the Faculty of Journalism at Lviv National University named after I. Franko. After graduating in 2009 from the Faculty of Journalism, Markevych continued to work as an assistant at the Department of Language for Mass Media until January 2024. At the beginning of the year, the lecturer mobilized to the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The department noted that Mr. Bohdan was an exemplary worker, a true intellectual, and a promising scientist. He was always ready to help and was attentive to his colleagues.

I don't remember a single Time when Bohdan refused to help someone, even if he had no time, even if he was tired. Students loved and respected him because he was always friendly and sensitive, remembered everything about everyone, understood, and empathized. Bohdan lived his work, faculty, family, and beloved nephew

For students, the tragic news on a cold autumn morning was no less painful.

He didn't teach me, but I always knew: his classes were incredible. All the students said so. He was always generous with kind words and the sincerest support. His genuine involvement in all our student projects was particularly impressive. And I always loved all this about him, admired, emulated. Loved to talk with him at the faculty, he was very dedicated to his work, so he was often there. And I am grateful that we did not lose connection when he went to the front. He wrote, always sincerely, it felt like from the heart. When he came to our diploma awarding ceremony, we applauded him for a long time. Because he was about love, about respect. And when he entered the assembly hall, the first thing I said to him was: can I hug you? And that moment is still before my eyes. There are people, when you see them, you always smile, always. Bohdan Mykhailovych is exactly such a person. I can't say "was" because in my heart he will always be like that, shining like the sun, as he could

It's incredibly hard to believe in the loss. For students and the teaching staff of the Faculty of Journalism, Bohdan Markevych will remain a bright person.

It's very hard to believe and come to terms with the horrible reality... Kind, sensitive, courageous... Rest in peace, our Hero, worthy Son of Ukraine... Bright memory of You, Bohdan, may the Lord accept you into His embrace and Kingdom of Heaven

The funeral service for Bohdan Markevych took place on October 2 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Lviv. The defender of Ukraine was buried at the Mars field of Lychakiv Cemetery.

The defender is survived by his parents, sister, and nephew.

The Commander-in-Chief joins the minute of silence. We honor the memory of all Ukrainians who died in the struggle for the Motherland. We remember those who were killed by the Russian invaders, light candles of memory, and bow our heads in sorrow during the national minute of silence, honoring the bright memory of the citizens of Ukraine who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the state: all military, civilians, and children, all who died in the fight against Russian occupiers and as a result of the enemy troops' attack on Ukrainian cities and villages.
