Ukraine’s Worst Road Gets a Major Fix: 150,000 Square Meters of Pavement Restored in Odesa Region.
Road Repair Progress in Odesa Region
According to Novyny.live: Since February 2023, over 150,000 square meters of road surface have been restored in the Odesa region, with a focus on the M-05 Kyiv–Odesa highway—one of the country’s most deteriorated routes. Authorities plan to repair more than 400,000 square meters of pavement along this critical corridor. Around 17 repair crews are deployed daily to maintain the pace of work.
On the M-05 highway alone, more than 50,000 square meters of pavement have already been completed. Oleksiy Kuleba, head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, stated:
“This year, road restoration here is a top priority. After winter, the M-05 Kyiv–Odesa highway became one of the most troublesome in the country, yet it remains critically important: it serves as a route to ports, for military logistics, and humanitarian shipments.” – Oleksiy Kuleba
Nationwide Road Repair Volumes
Across Ukraine, 1 million square meters of road repairs were completed between January and March 2023—the highest volume since the start of the full-scale war. Kuleba emphasized that “since February, over 150,000 m² of road surface have been restored in the Odesa region. Importantly, this year repairs across the country started earlier—in February—and the pace has significantly increased.”
Work is ongoing not only on the M-05 but also on other vital routes, including:
- M-14
- M-15
- M-16
- M-28
- M-27
- R-72
- R-55
Restoring road surfaces in the Odesa region is essential for the local economy and for ensuring road safety.
Improving road infrastructure in the Odesa region is a key step toward enhancing transport accessibility and supporting the regional economy, especially amid ongoing hostilities. The repaired roads will benefit not only civilian traffic but also military logistics, which is particularly urgent under current conditions. The accelerated pace of road repairs during wartime reflects the state’s efforts to maintain infrastructure and ensure highway safety.
