Cucumber prices in Ukraine reached a record high over the past 8 years: what will happen next.
The situation in the cucumber market in Ukraine
According to ТСН: This week, domestic greenhouse farms are offering cucumbers at prices of 100-130 UAH/kg, which is 10% higher than last week. Cucumber prices have reached their highest level in the last 8 years.
This positive price trend is associated with a decrease in the supply of local products due to seasonal factors against a backdrop of stable demand from both wholesale companies and retail chains. The volumes of imports are also unable to meet local consumers' needs.
“Market participants note that as of today, most large greenhouse farms in Ukraine have already reported the actual completion of the cucumber sales season for the current cycle.”
Currently, sales are being conducted only by a few companies that, taking into account high production costs, can offer only small volumes of vegetables at prices that cannot compete with imported products.
In Ukrainian greenhouses, cucumbers are shipped at an average of 12% more expensive than in the same period last year.
“At the same time, key market players are confident that the price increase in this segment will continue. As it stands, it is still not possible to cover the current demand, even considering the supply of imported products.”
Thus, the situation in the cucumber market in Ukraine indicates a significant price increase that is likely to persist in the near future. It is important to monitor further developments and consumers' reactions to changes in price trends, as this may affect their purchasing choices. Currently, local producers are facing significant challenges, and imports cannot fully compensate for the shortage of domestic products. Ultimately, this may reflect on the vegetable market as a whole.
