Louisiana - a state in the USA purchased in 1803
In 1803, the USA bought Louisiana from France for 15 million dollars. This deal doubled the country's area, adding about 2.1 million square kilometers of land. The then-president Thomas Jefferson was interested in controlling the port of New Orleans and the Mississippi River.

In 1867, the USA bought Alaska from the Russian Empire for 7.2 million dollars. This acquisition turned out to be beneficial, as the natural resources found ensured the economic development of the region. Alaska became the 49th state of the USA in 1959.
U.S. Virgin Islands - an island territory of the USA, purchased in 1917
In 1917, the USA bought the U.S. Virgin Islands from Denmark for 25 million dollars. This acquisition provided control over maritime routes and strengthened the military presence of the USA in the Caribbean Sea.
Gadsden - a city in Alabama, purchased in 1853
In 1853, the USA purchased territory south of the Gila River and west of the Rio Grande from Mexico. This acquisition facilitated the construction of a transcontinental railroad on the southern route.
