Cash Circulation in Ukraine as of July 1, 2026

According to Мінфін — Крипто/Фінанси: As of July 1, 2026, Ukraine’s cash circulation reached 970.8 billion hryvnias—an increase of 44.5 billion hryvnias since the start of the year. This marks a 4.8% growth in the money supply during the first half of 2026. The country currently has 2.6 billion banknotes totaling 960.7 billion hryvnias in circulation, alongside 15.3 billion coins worth 9.9 billion hryvnias.

Breakdown of Banknotes and Coins

On average, each Ukrainian holds 64 banknotes and 197 coins. By July 1, 2026, 1,000 hryvnia notes accounted for over 55% of the total value of banknotes in circulation. The most common banknotes by volume are:

  • 500 hryvnia notes—25.8% (682.3 million units),
  • 1,000 hryvnia notes—20.0% (529.3 million units),
  • 200 hryvnia notes—11.8% (311.7 million units).

The release of a new 2,000 hryvnia banknote is scheduled for September 4, 2026. This move is expected to reshape the country’s cash landscape. Notably, the National Bank of Ukraine began withdrawing 10-kopiyka coins from circulation on October 1, 2025. As of July 1, 2026, 6.5 million of these coins have already been removed. Meanwhile, 50-kopiyka coins still make up 9.1% of all coins in circulation.

Among the 15.3 billion coins currently in use, the distribution is as follows:

  • 10 kopiykas—26.9% (4,117.1 million units),
  • 50 kopiykas—9.1% (1,389.3 million units),
  • 1 hryvnia—4.8% (738.1 million units),
  • 2 hryvnias—4.3% (662.9 million units),
  • 1 hryvnia (old design)—2.7% (413.9 million units),
  • 5 hryvnias—2.6% (390.3 million units),
  • 10 hryvnias—2.5% (386.2 million units).

These developments highlight ongoing shifts in Ukraine’s cash circulation. The introduction of the 2,000 hryvnia note could be a significant step forward for the country’s financial system. The combination of a growing money supply and the planned removal of 10-kopiyka coins reflects the National Bank of Ukraine’s active strategy to modernize currency management and align the financial system with current economic realities.
