UN Expert: Negotiations Lead to a Frozen Conflict in Ukraine.
According to ТСН: The situation in the negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine is just the beginning of a long process of conflict resolution. Expert Dmytro Dovhopoliy stated on the 'Espreso' channel that the main goal of the current negotiation process is a temporary halt to the war.
“I do not think we are on the path to a peace agreement. It seems to me that what is happening is an overture for a ceasefire, a Korean ceasefire. We are now going to negotiate, we are supposedly going to agree, and ultimately we will somehow agree to stop firing at some conditional line, and it will remain there for quite a long time. Until it dies, we hope, and we know who,” Dmytro Dovhopoliy stated.
Changes in Negotiations
The expert emphasized that the appearance of a new member of the US negotiating team — Dan Driscoll — indicates a change in priorities in the White House. Dovhopoliy noted that a revolution has occurred, which has gone unnoticed by the analytical community.
“There was a revolution, actually, unnoticed by our analytical community... Stephen Miller absolutely does not need Ukraine; he needs Venezuela,” the Americanist noted.
Dovhopoliy also criticized the new nomination, focusing on the lack of diplomatic experience.
“We have a person with not a single day of work in diplomacy, who was given one week for preparation. And he arrived in Kyiv not very prepared,” the historian noted.
Ukraine's Position in Negotiations
Dovhopoliy expressed his opinion on the military situation in Ukraine, quoting Driscoll's words.
“The US armed forces love Ukraine and stand with Ukraine. But to be honest, our military assessment is that Ukraine is in a very poor position, and now is the best time for peace,” the expert conveyed Driscoll's words.
According to him, the war is in a deadlock, and US pressure on Ukraine is due to Donald Trump's internal difficulties.
Recommendations for the Ukrainian Side
In conclusion, Dovhopoliy gave a recommendation to the Ukrainian negotiating team, referencing theatrical wisdom.
“My recommendation, I take it from theater: the greater the actor, the longer the pause... We need a pause, we need to look again at who we have in the negotiating team, and we need to work more closely with the Europeans. That is my triune thought.”
It is worth noting that other experts also draw attention to the actions of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, who recently tried to present his demands as a 'peace plan.' And US President Donald Trump stated that he 'did not set deadlines for concluding a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia.'
Thus, while negotiations are ongoing, their dynamics and forecasts for peaceful settlement remain uncertain. Experts' recommendations may help Ukraine adapt to new challenges at the international level; however, actual efforts from both sides still require serious work on creating conditions for stopping hostilities.
