The UK will have the longest mountain sledging track: project details.
A new adventure on Cairngorm Mountain
According to The Sun: Adrenaline enthusiasts will be able to experience a new attraction next year in the largest national park in the UK.
The Cairngorm mountain range in the eastern Highlands of Scotland may soon have a new sledging track.
AlamyIn the coming weeks, designers will begin working on plans for a new sledging track at Cairngorm Resort, which will be the longest in the UK at 1.2 km.
Currently, the longest sledging track is located in Chatham, Kent, and is 750 meters long.
The new track will also be the highest, with a maximum elevation of 715 meters above sea level.
Two people can ride on the sled at the same time.
This major new attraction aims to 'complement summer activities at Cairngorm Resort,' said resort representatives.
Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) were informed this week that designers will work on defining the total length of the track as well as regulating accessibility.
According to BBC, MSPs were also informed that the new attraction will meet demand from visitors, especially those who 'just want to try it out.'
The sledging track is set to open in the summer season of 2026, and visitors will be able to use a funicular to reach the mountain summit, which is currently not allowed.
Cairngorm Resort first announced plans for the track back in April, estimating the project's cost at £1.2 million.
At the time of the announcement, the resort noted that the track would be located within the existing infrastructure for skiers at the base of the mountain and would utilize the existing ski lift alongside bike tracks.
The track will be open from spring to autumn, and the track itself will be made of lightweight aluminum, allowing it to be quickly dismantled and set up in two weeks at the beginning and end of the season.
Tim Hurst, temporary CEO of CMSL, said: “Summer sledging tracks are a well-known concept in the mountains of Austria, Switzerland, and Germany, as well as in North America, but this is a first for the Scottish mountains.”
“We are extremely proud to be working on this exciting product, presenting something new for this region with minimal impact on the landscape.”
The new sledging track will complement the summer activities at Cairngorm Resort, such as go-karting and mountain biking.
The resort also has several year-round activities available, including the only mountain railway route in Scotland — the Cairngorm Funicular, which is also the highest in the UK.
GettyThe mountain railway experience covers over 2 km, and regular services transport visitors to the Ptarmigan station in approximately five to eight minutes.
On the way up, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the Grampian Mountains, as well as ancient Caledonian pine forests of Rothiemurchus and Lake Morlich.
There is also a mountain garden that is open all year round, growing plants adapted to harsh conditions, as well as several species of birds.
In the garden, you can find the highest phone booth in the UK, which you can even call to surprise visitors.
In winter, visitors may have the opportunity to ski on numerous slopes ranging from green to black.
Thus, the new sledging track will be another reason for visitors to come to Cairngorm Resort even in the off-season.

All of this reflects the fruitful development of Cairngorm Resort, which aims to not only attract tourists in winter but also provide active recreation during the summer. The new sledging track will be an important step in this direction, adding diversity to the offerings for visitors throughout the year.
