Ticket prices start at £33.90.

Lumo, a company that began operations in 2021 using 100% electric trains, announced the new service on social media.

“Our new schedule begins on December 14, 2025!”
“Our new service to Glasgow starts in December, and we are also adding an additional service from Newcastle to London King’s Cross every weekday.”

Lumo plans to run two northbound and one southbound service on weekdays, as well as one service in each direction on Sundays between London King’s Cross and Glasgow.

The new route will connect both cities and will also make stops in Falkirk and Newcastle.

For pre-booking travel in 2026, tickets will cost just £33.90.

For those traveling from Newcastle to Glasgow, tickets will cost £10.90.

As with most rail operators, ticket prices are lower when booking in advance compared to buying on the day of travel, with bookings available 24 weeks before departure.

Currently, Lumo's services between London King’s Cross and Glasgow Queen Street require a transfer in Edinburgh and take just over five hours.

This is not the only new route between London and Scotland: the Lumo route to Stirling will launch in spring 2026.

The new Lumo route will connect London Euston directly to Stirling, stopping at Milton Keynes, Nuneaton, Crewe, Preston, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Motherwell, Whitfield (serving Coatbridge), Greenfaulds (serving Cambuslang), and Larbert.

A new service from London Euston to Rochdale is also planned, stopping at Manchester Victoria, Eccles, Newton-le-Willows, and Warrington Bank Quay.

This route still needs approval but could begin operations in 2027. If approved, it would be the first time in over 20 years that a direct train connects Rochdale and London.

As for comfort onboard Lumo trains, passengers will not find a first-class option, but they do have USB sockets, folding tables, and comfortable seating.

Passengers can adjust the lighting using a button on the back of the seat in front of them.

The launch of the new service between London and Glasgow is an important step for the development of rail transport in the UK. It will simplify travel between these cities and provide new opportunities for connecting regions. The growth of rail route offerings will help reduce the strain on road transport and make travel more convenient for passengers.

The announced new routes emphasize Lumo's commitment to sustainable transport and providing accessible travel for a broad audience of passengers. This opens up new horizons for rail connectivity in the future.
