Massive Overnight Drone Strike: 289 Russian UAVs Launched, 267 Shot Down, Fatalities and Injuries Reported.
Ukraine Under Attack: March 31 Drone Assault
According to Novyny.live: On March 31, Russian forces launched a large-scale drone attack against Ukraine, deploying 289 unmanned aerial vehicles. Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted 267 of them, but 20 drones managed to hit their targets across 11 different locations. The assault resulted in one fatality and 13 injuries.
In the Poltava district, one person was killed and three others were wounded, including an 11-year-old boy. In the Sumy region, a total of 13 people were reported injured. The attack was carried out from five launch points:
- Oryol
- Kursk
- Millerovo
- Primorsko-Akhtarsk
- Gvardeyskoye
The drones used in the assault included Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas models. This incident is part of an ongoing pattern of aggression by Russian forces, despite Ukraine's robust air defense efforts that managed to neutralize the vast majority of incoming threats.
The March 31 attacks highlight the persistent danger posed by drone warfare in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
While the interception rate was high, the fact that some drones still got through raises questions about the overall effectiveness of current air defense systems. This event is part of Russia's broader strategy to destabilize Ukraine and underscores the urgent need for the country to further strengthen its defensive capabilities.
