Kyiv Was the Primary Target in Overnight Russian Strike Involving Drones Entering via Belarus.
Russian Military Launches Attack on Ukraine
According to UATV: On June 15, the Russian army carried out a large-scale combined assault on Ukraine, deploying both drones and missiles. Some of the drones entered Ukrainian airspace from Belarus. According to Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the main thrust of the attack was directed at Kyiv.
The strike caused damage across several regions, including:
- Chernihiv
- Kyiv
- Zhytomyr
- Dnipro
- Kharkiv
The operation involved unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and missiles launched from both air and ground platforms. Demchenko noted that the enemy’s tactics remained consistent:
“Tonight, the enemy’s tactics were unchanged: drones enter from Russian territory, then move along the Ukrainian-Belarusian border.” — Andriy Demchenko
He further explained that some drones crossed Belarusian airspace, using it as a corridor to advance deeper into Ukraine, particularly through the Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions, before heading toward western areas. These developments highlight the ongoing active military operations by Russian forces on Ukrainian soil.
This attack underscores the persistent threat from Russia, which continues to rely on drones and missiles to achieve its military objectives. The use of Belarusian airspace for strikes on Ukraine also points to the close military cooperation between the two countries. As the conflict drags on, it remains critical for Ukraine to bolster its defensive capabilities and respond to threats emerging from neighboring states.
