According to TSN.ua: In a first for a European nation, German authorities have blocked the oil tanker Arcusat from transiting its territorial waters, taking a significant step in the international effort to counter the so-called 'shadow fleet'. The Aframax-type tanker, reportedly built last year at China's Linhai Huajie shipyard, was forced to turn toward the Russian Arctic. This action highlights the growing global crackdown on illicit oil shipments designed to circumvent international sanctions.

The Equasis database lists the Arcusat as a vessel that 'never existed', raising serious questions about its documentation. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) also finds no registered vessel under that name. The tanker is believed to be owned by Sempre Shipping Ltd, a company registered in the Seychelles, a detail that suggests an attempt to obscure the vessel's true origins and ownership.

International Coordination Against the Shadow Fleet

This German blockade follows actions initiated by the United States, which began seizing sanction-evading tankers in December 2022, including the motor tanker Veronica linked to Venezuela.
