Norfolk - an affordable place for a holiday

According to The Sun: When it comes to taking a holiday in the UK, I always pay attention to several aspects: I hope for good weather, the sea, sand, cozy cafes, interesting shops, and, of course, affordability.

This is where Norfolk becomes a real discovery as it is one of the most affordable tourist destinations in the country, with many wonderful seaside towns to visit, including one of my favorites.

One of my favorite seaside towns in the county - CromerAlice Penwill

Charming Cromer

I adore Cromer, a seaside town on the north coast of Norfolk, located between East Runton and Overstrand.

The town is famous for its golden sandy beach, numerous pubs and souvenir shops, Victorian pier, and of course, Cromer crab.

Not only has East Anglia been recognized as one of Lonely Planet's top tourist destinations for 2025, but Norfolk has turned out to be quite affordable.

The average cost of accommodation in Norfolk is £27.45, and tourists spend on average £27.45 on food per day.

Transport costs amount to £17.80, and the average price of an alcoholic drink is £5.10, according to North Norfolk News.

Affordable food and drinks

Norfolk boasts many beautiful spots, from Wells-next-the-Sea to Hunstanton. However, after my first visit to Cromer a few years ago, this town quickly became one of my favorite destinations in the UK.

While seaside towns can be more expensive, there are several budget options available in Cromer. Instead of searching for a trendy ice cream cafe, just look a little further down the streets behind the beach, where you will find Windows Ice Cream.

This small spot offers soft serve ice cream priced from £2 to £4, depending on the size.

Kings Head / Cromer

Another affordable place is Kings Head, located in town and offering a sunny pub garden and cheap drinks. There is a daily deal: two cocktails for £10.

They also provide autumn discounts; for example, when purchasing a burger, a drink costs only an additional £2.

Of course, since we are by the sea, visitors often seek out tasty fish and chips.

While No1 Cromer is popular, I prefer Mary Janes, which is located a little further away.

This shop received a Blue Ribbon at the Good Food Awards 2024/25.

Here you can enjoy crispy duck fillet and a large portion of golden chips for £13.50 or two sausages with chips for £10.50.

For sides, peas, beans, or pineapple fritters are available for an extra £2.

Clearly, the beach in summer is a wonderful place for relaxation or swimming.

Cultural entertainment and natural landscapes

Visitors can check out the cafes on the pier and try Cromer crab.

You can catch crabs off the pier for free if you bring your own supplies; if not, they can be purchased from the shop on Cromer pier.

For great views of the beach and tasty snacks, visit Rocket House Cafe, located near The Gangway.

Cromer is conveniently located to visit other settlements, such as East Runton, where you will find the great pub White Horse, recently renovated.

You can also take a walk to Sheringham, which takes a little over an hour.

Thus, Cromer may not be the most economical place in Norfolk, but it is possible to have a holiday on a limited budget here.

While a round trip ticket from London to Cromer on Saturday, October 11, costs from £41.69, traveling with discounts can make it cheaper.

On the weekends in October, Sun Travel found a room at Sandcliff Guest House for £89 - £44.50 per person.

Or a lovely room on Airbnb for £72 per night - £36 per person.

If you venture a bit inland, even cheaper options can be found; for example, at Travelodge Norwich Central Riverside, prices start from £35.99.

From there, you can reach Cromer in 45 minutes by direct train.

Cromer in Norfolk - one of my favorite towns in the countySupplied Norfolk, and especially Cromer, offers affordable and diverse experiences for tourists. The prices for accommodation and food are pleasantly surprising, making this area attractive for those who want to enjoy a seaside holiday without significant expenditure. With beautiful beaches and various entertainment options, Cromer becomes a popular choice for tourists from all over the UK.
