A man who blew himself up on a mine in the Odesa region on August 10 swam more than 100 meters from the shore. In addition, on the same day in Zatoka, two more vacationers lost their lives, and one was injured and taken to the hospital.

A man who died in the Karolino-Buhaz community in front of his children swam to a depth of approximately 100 m from the shore. It was there that he stumbled upon an underwater mine, which detonated.

On the same day, two vacationers from Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi blew themselves up on a mine in Zatoka. Another person was injured as a result of the explosion; he was brought to the city's multidisciplinary hospital with a diagnosis of mine-blast injury.

Police opened cases

Currently, law enforcement agencies have opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (murder with a note of an accident).

Additionally, in total, during the swimming season in 2025, five people died from mines while swimming in the sea in the Odesa region. During the entire period of the full-scale invasion, there have already been 9 such cases.

The catastrophe that occurred in the Odesa region and in Zatoka led to the death of three people and the injury of one person while swimming in the sea due to encounters with underwater mines. The police have launched an investigation into these tragic events to establish all circumstances and causes of the explosions.
