New Defense Course of Serbia: Belgrade Terminated Defense Contracts with Russia.
Serbia has canceled some agreements with Russia regarding weapons supplies due to sanctions against Moscow for the invasion of Ukraine. Moreover, Belgrade is increasingly turning to other weapons suppliers, reports Berliner Zeitung.
The Chief of the General Staff of Serbia, Milan Mojsilovic, stated in an interview with the Serbian newspaper 'Vechernje Novosti' that weapons supplies from the Russian Federation have become impossible due to the war in Ukraine, according to UNIAN.
'We have canceled some agreements and postponed others, hoping that the situation in international relations at the global level will normalize and we will be able to fulfill the contracts,' he told reporters.
Mojsilovic noted that Serbia has managed to find a way to ensure the supply of spare parts and maintenance of military equipment even amid sanctions against the Russian Federation, as this is mostly Soviet weapons.
The publication reminded that in August 2024, Serbia agreed to purchase 12 Rafale fighters from France to replace its Russian MiG-29s. In addition, recently Belgrade announced the adoption of the Chinese FK-3 anti-aircraft missile system, which was supplied in 2022. Serbia became the first country in Europe to use this system.
