The new Pope of Rome is Robert Prevost, who has taken the name Leo XIV. The ceremonial inauguration took place, and Leo XIV received the pallium and the Fisherman's ring.
Who is the new Pope?
Robert Francis Prevost was born in Chicago in 1955. He was educated at Villanova University and spent most of his career as a missionary in Peru. He became a cardinal only in 2023 and was unexpectedly appointed as the head of the Catholic Church.
Leo XIV has already shown interest in international issues, sharing his desires for ensuring peace in the world and supporting Eastern churches and traditions. Accordingly, the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, expressed gratitude to the new Pope for the proposal to mediate in peacefully resolving conflicts.
