U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that to end the war in Ukraine, the country must demonstrate a willingness to make concessions regarding territories that have been seized by Russia since 2014.

This was reported by the 'New York Times'.

Rubio expressed his position while flying to Saudi Arabia, where he intends to hold talks with Ukrainian officials. His statement came ten days after a meeting between Presidents Trump and Zelensky. Immediately after that meeting, the Trump administration suspended military aid to Ukraine, as there were no security guarantees regarding the proposed natural resource deal.

'The most important thing is to understand that Ukraine and Russia need to take difficult steps to end the conflict or suspend it,' Rubio said.

Rubio did not provide specific details about the future agreement but emphasized that the success of diplomacy will depend on compromise from both sides.

'Russia cannot seize all of Ukraine, and Ukraine cannot return the Russians to their 2014 positions in any reasonable timeframe,' he added.

Rubio also noted that future negotiations with Moscow will be crucial in determining the limits of concessions that Russia is willing to make.

'We do not know how far they are willing to go,' Rubio said.

A press conference with U.S. Secretary of State is scheduled for the next day, and it will be held under the condition of maintaining peace in Ukraine. The U.S. position may change if Ukraine demonstrates its willingness for a peaceful resolution.

'We will not provide assistance to Russia,' Rubio emphasized.
