According to UATV: Russian military strikes on January 29, 2023, resulted in the deaths of at least three civilians in Ukraine, with further injuries and residential buildings destroyed in Kryvyi Rih and Kherson Oblast. In Kryvyi Rih, a woman was killed, and three other civilians—two women and a man—were wounded. These attacks are part of a broader pattern of assaults on civilian infrastructure that has characterized the conflict.
A 46-year-old man was killed during a strike on the Korabelnyi district of Kherson. According to Oleksandr Prokudin,
"the deceased was 46 years old". Additionally, a female resident of the village of Pravdyne in Kherson Oblast also lost her life in the attacks.
Large-Scale Overnight Assault by Russian Forces
The civilian casualties occurred during a major overnight offensive. Russian forces launched 105 attack drones against Ukraine in the early hours of January 29. Oleksandr Vilkul stated that
"Russian troops struck residential buildings", leading to the tragic outcomes for local residents. The use of such a large number of drones in a single wave represents a significant escalation in tactics.
The recent events underscore an intensification of Russian military activity, with severe consequences for the civilian population. The shelling of residential areas raises profound concerns for local safety and highlights the ongoing need for international support to protect Ukrainian cities. Within the context of the prolonged conflict, it is critical to recognize that such attacks have far-reaching implications, not only for the affected regions but also for the overall stability of Ukraine.
