One of the EU countries has legalized moonshine production, there is an interesting nuance.
Lithuania legalized moonshine production at rural tourism farms
Starting from October 31 in Lithuania, the production of alcoholic beverages with a strength of up to 65 degrees is allowed. But there is a nuance - moonshine production at rural tourism farms in Lithuania has been legalized, but not for sale. This is evidenced by the amendments to the law signed by the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda, writes LRT.
From October 31 in Lithuania, beverages with a strength of up to 65 degrees are recognized as "national heritage products". Lithuanians will be able to produce up to 100 liters of moonshine per year, but only for personal or family use or for on-site tasting, its sale will be prohibited.
Amendments also require moonshine producers to notify the Lithuanian State Food and Veterinary Service 48 hours before the start of production. And within a day after the end of production - report the exact amount of the produced beverage.
It is also envisaged that moonshine will be poured into glass bottles with a volume from 0.2 to 1 liter with labels indicating the number, name and surname of the producer, date and Time of production, composition and percentage of ethyl alcohol content.
The Lithuanian authorities previously explained that the amendment will not bring significant financial benefits to farm owners, but will help preserve national heritage.
It is worth noting that the Minister of Defense of Lithuania Laurynas Kasčiūnas urged to change the algorithm of the NATO air patrol mission in the Baltic countries after the recent crash of a Russian military drone in Latvia.
