Colonel of the National Guard Organized Illegal Payments of 100 Thousand: Case Details

According to ТСН: Law enforcement uncovered a colonel of the National Guard who organized illegal payments of 100 thousand hryvnias to military personnel, although they were not at the front and were engaged in fortification construction work.

From January to May 2024, servicemen from one of the units of the State Special Transport Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were engaged in constructing fortifications in the Zaporizhzhia region on a rotational basis. These soldiers were effectively on the second line of defense, creating fortifications for the units of the National Guard.

False Information and Payments

“Despite this, the head of the engineering service from one of the units of the National Guard, overstepping his official authority, provided false information in reports, indicating that 317 servicemen of the SST were on the front line with the aggressor,” the message states.

This case became the basis for the payment of 100 thousand hryvnias to each of the servicemen. According to preliminary calculations, the state suffered losses exceeding 72 million hryvnias.

Suspicion and Consequences

The colonel was charged under part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, concerning the abuse of office that led to severe consequences in wartime conditions. He faces up to 12 years of imprisonment. The court selected a preventive measure in the form of house arrest for the suspect.

Additionally, it was previously reported that soldiers of the 110th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will face trial for 'systematic extortion from servicemen and threats of murder.'

This case underscores the seriousness of the situation regarding military payments and possible abuses at the state level. The investigation continues, and its results will determine the further course of the case, as well as the state of operations within Ukraine's defense structures during wartime.
