Only 2 days left until the closing of the 2024 Olympic Games, so the battle for leadership in the medal standings is approaching the final stretch.

Today, Ukraine won its eleventh medal – the silver was claimed by Lyudmyla Luzan and Anastasia Rybachok in the C-2 500 meters. The Ukrainian athletes repeated their success from three years ago and again fell short only to the Chinese team. Ukraine now has three gold medals (Yaroslava Mahuchikh – athletics, women's saber team – fencing, Oleksandr Khizhniak – boxing), four silvers (Serhiy Kulish – shooting, Illia Kovtun – artistic gymnastics, Parviz Nasibov – wrestling, Lyudmyla Luzan/Anastasia Rybachok – canoe sprint) and four bronzes (Olga Kharlan – fencing, Mykhailo Kokhan and Iryna Herashchenko – athletics, Zhan Beleniuk – wrestling). Despite losing three positions in the medal standings and currently sitting in eighteenth place, there is an opportunity to increase the medal count as athlete Iryna Koliadenko has advanced to the finals.

The race for the top of the medal standings continues between the United States and China, as these countries have the same number of gold medals, with the Americans leading the Chinese in the number of silver and bronze medals. Chinese athletes have won the most first-place finishes for the second day in a row: today victories were earned by canoeists Shixiao Xu and Mengya Sun, diver Yiwen Chen, the men's table tennis team, and boxer Yu Wu.

For the first Time in recent days, there have been many changes in the top 10 of the medal standings: France dropped out of the top five as it did not win any gold medals today. Instead, Japan is now in fourth place, having climbed three positions in one day, narrowing its gap with Australia, which is in third place. It is important to note that the Japanese have beaten their own record for the number of gold medals, as they already have 16 such awards.

Besides the aforementioned countries, Great Britain is in fifth place, South Korea dropped to seventh, the Netherlands remains in eighth place, Germany climbed to ninth, and Italy rounds out the top 10.

The Summer Olympic Games are being held in Paris and 16 other cities in France, as well as in Tahiti. These Games also mark the debut of breakdancing as an Olympic sport and are the last Games held under the presidency of the IOC's Thomas Bach.

The 2024 Olympics are the first to feature an equal number of male and female athletes. The cost of the Games is projected to be 8.3 billion euros.

The opening ceremony took place at 7:30 PM on July 26, 2024. This is the second time in history that the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games is held outside a stadium (the first time this happened was at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games).

The parade of nations took place on boats along the Seine River from the Austerlitz Bridge to the Iena Bridge, and the official ceremony was held at the Trocadéro Square on a temporary mini-stadium. The parade route spanned 6 kilometers and showcased cultural elements of the ceremony and views of Paris landmarks.

The director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games was Thomas Jolly.
