Brighton railway station currently faces issues with cleanliness and anti-social behavior.
However, advisors hope to change the situation with a new plan.
The project includes improving the area around the station to create a 'more dignified welcome for visitors,' as noted on the Brighton and Hove council website.
Advisors Jacob Allen and Jacob Taylor outlined their proposals, emphasizing their intention to collaborate with Southern, National Rail, and businesses on Queen's Road to enhance the area and strengthen the tourist economy.
Jacob Allen, cabinet member for customer service and public space, told The Argus: 'We want to focus on places where residents and visitors can go out and enjoy our wonderful city.'
He also noted that Brighton is the most visited city outside London in the Southeast, so it is important to have an attractive entrance to stimulate the tourist economy.
New investments for the station's entrance area
Among the proposed investments is anti-sticker paint that will help maintain the cleanliness of the area.
This decision was made after the team removed around 180 stickers from the station's facade that had accumulated over the last few weeks.
Advisor Taylor also reported that two new wash machines have been added to improve cleaning throughout the city.
57 new bins are planned to be installed on Queen's Road to make the area tidier.
Long-term plans also include adding more hanging flower baskets and organizing the sidewalks.
Advisor Taylor noted that they have a new city center manager responsible for collaborating with businesses and assessing how they can work together to make the space 'look and feel fantastic.'
Support for council proposals from Southern
Tom Izdown, head of Southern stations, expressed his satisfaction with the council's proposal to collaborate with businesses near the station, as reported by The Argus.
He emphasized that he takes pride in the station and its role in the city's tourist industry.
The number of visitors now exceeds pre-pandemic levels, and the station has been nominated for the National Railway Award.
Izdown added that it is important to do everything possible to ensure visitors return to Brighton.
He also reported that this year Southern joined the Brighton Crime Reduction Partnership, which means closer cooperation with local businesses and the police.
Izdown concluded: 'We will meet with the council to discuss how we can work together to keep the station a beautiful entrance to the wonderful city of Brighton.'
Southern will also soon work with Kew Gardens and the Toy Museum under the station to create a mural.
The railway network has also indicated that it will work closely with Southern to improve the station environment, highlighting the importance of this issue.
This news discusses plans for the reconstruction of the railway station in Brighton, particularly measures to improve infrastructure, cleanliness, and the area's appearance. These changes aim to attract more tourists and enhance service quality. Collaboration between the council and railway companies is a key element of this initiative, which seeks to make the city more appealing to visitors.Read also
