Toulouse Train Station Receives Prestigious Architectural Award: What the Station Looks Like.
Impressive Train Station in Toulouse
According to The Sun: Toulouse, located in the south of France, is renowned for its main train station, Matabiau. Recently, it received the prestigious Prix-Versailles award for its architectural beauty. This station, situated in the city center, is an important transport hub, connecting the 'Pink City' to numerous destinations.
AlamyThe station, built in the early 20th century, impresses with its façade made of historical stones from Saintonge, adorned with 26 coats of arms from various rail lines of Midi.
Architectural Features and Modernization
Inside the station, there are two main vestibules with ticket offices, shops, and cafes. Underground passages connect both halls to numerous platforms. The station was renovated in 1905 by architect Marius Tudot, who also designed the station in Bordeaux. In 1938, the building was further enhanced, granting it the status of a historical monument.
Currently, the station is undergoing significant modernization as part of the 'Grand Matabiau – quais d’Oc' project. Updates to the station itself are planned, as well as the construction of new housing and an expansion of the transport hub. Among the innovations is a pink roof that reflects the traditional bricks of the city.

Development Prospects
The station aims to triple the number of passengers by 2030, thanks to the construction of a new high-speed train line Bordeaux-Toulouse (LGV), scheduled to open in 2032. Construction, which began in May, will be completed in 2032, allowing travel time from Bordeaux to Toulouse to be reduced to one hour and five minutes, and from Paris to Toulouse to three hours and ten minutes.
In the future, the line may also extend to Spain. The station will undergo several improvements, including connections to regional routes toward cities such as Bayonne, Agen, Mont-de-Marsan, Pau, and Montauban.

Recently, the Spanish railway company Renfe announced the resumption of high-speed services between Barcelona and Toulouse.
These changes open new prospects for Toulouse as an important transport hub in Europe, which could significantly impact the local economy and improve the accessibility of this region. Thanks to the modernization of the station and new rail connections, the city may become even more attractive to tourists and businesses.
