Survey: Support for Sending Peacekeepers

According to a survey by YouGov, a majority (56%) of residents in Germany support the idea of sending peacekeeping forces to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire with Russia. This was reported by DW.

The survey data indicates that only 23% of respondents want to see German military personnel in peacekeeping forces, while 33% oppose their involvement. Additionally, 19% are overall against sending peacekeepers to Ukraine, and 25% have no definite opinion on the matter.

It is worth noting that NATO is currently discussing the issue of ensuring a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, but military actions continue.

The Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz, expressed his position against an open discussion about sending peacekeeping forces, while Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that the issue of peacekeepers would only become relevant after the conditions for a ceasefire are agreed upon. However, he emphasized that Germany, as the largest member of NATO in Europe and the largest economy on the continent, cannot remain a passive party in this situation.
