Parking in Odesa Hits 60 UAH per Hour: Why Locals Are Fuming.
New Parking Rates in Odesa
According to Novyny.live: With the start of summer, Odesa has introduced new hourly parking fees of 60 Ukrainian hryvnias in coastal areas. This move has sparked outrage among residents, who argue the cost is too steep given the ongoing war and declining incomes. Many locals say the price hike could seriously limit their ability to use parking facilities.
To put this in perspective, the previous standard city rate was just 30 UAH per hour. For comparison, parking costs in neighboring countries vary: in Bulgaria, after switching to the euro, rates range from 45 to 90 UAH per hour, while Romania’s most expensive zone charges 35 UAH per hour. This makes Odesa’s new tariff higher than the regional average.
Residents Speak Out on the Fees
Locals have been vocal about their displeasure. Viktor, one resident, said:
“For a pensioner, this is a lot.”Alina added: “The parking lots are not well-maintained at all. I think it’s too expensive.” Victoria commented: “Prices shouldn’t be raised at all,” stressing the need to keep parking affordable for everyone.
The city expects these new rates to boost Odesa’s budget by roughly 300 million UAH annually. Yet despite the potential financial upside, the situation has stirred concern over poor infrastructure and lack of upkeep. Residents believe the price increase is unjustified if the facilities don’t meet modern safety and comfort standards.
Given these factors, parking in Odesa remains a hot topic, sparking lively debate among citizens. The issue calls for careful analysis—and possibly a revision of pricing policies—taking into account the current socioeconomic climate. It is crucial for city officials to listen to public opinion and ensure proper service levels in parking zones, which could ease social tensions and improve overall acceptance of the new rates.
