In Britain, a post-journey fare payment system has been launched: how the new system works.
A new app for purchasing train tickets
According to The Sun: A new app has been introduced that allows passengers to purchase train tickets after boarding.
Testing of this feature will begin today on Northern Rail service routes between Harrogate and Leeds, and will later expand to other routes.
GettyAs part of the experiment, passengers can board the train and press a button on the app on their phone.
GPS technology will determine their location, and then users will return to the app to complete the purchase process, according to
BBC.
Within a few minutes, passengers will receive a notification with the fare amount, which will be charged at the end of the day.
If a ticket needs to be presented during the journey, it can be shown in the app, where there is a barcode for scanning by inspectors.
The same can be done at the barriers when exiting the station, reports the Department for Transport (DfT).
Participants in the experiment will receive 15 pounds sterling as free credit.
Testing will also begin on routes between Sheffield and Doncaster on October 27, and between Sheffield and Barnsley on November 24.
A similar ticket selling experiment started on some East Midlands Railway routes on September 1.
Transport Minister Lord Hendy noted:
"We are modernizing the ticket sales system".
"These experiments simplify fares and the ticket sales system, making rail travel more accessible to people".
West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin stated:
"The implementation of smart technologies for location-based ticket sales will remove barriers to travel and help secure the best fares without the need for advance planning".
Some travellers have already shared their thoughts on the new experiment on social media.
One Reddit user wrote:
"An excellent feature would be automatic fare reductions if the train is delayed".
"I think railway companies won’t want to implement this idea quickly".
Another person commented:
"Great idea. I hate buying train tickets, it’s so confusing".PA
This new app could significantly change the way train tickets are purchased, making it more convenient for passengers. With the ability to buy a ticket during the journey, travellers gain more freedom and flexibility. The experiment, aimed at integrating modern technologies, promises to simplify the travel process and attract new users to rail transport.
