Ukraine's Pension System Updates in 2026

According to Novyny.live: Starting in 2026, Ukrainians aged 65 and older who meet the required insurance record will qualify for a higher minimum pension. According to new data, the baseline pension for people in this age group is set at 3,458.80 hryvnias. This adjustment is part of broader government efforts to strengthen social support for senior citizens.

As of January 1, 2026, Ukraine's minimum wage will rise to 8,647 hryvnias—a move expected to boost the economy and improve conditions for retirees. Meanwhile, the subsistence minimum for people who have lost their ability to work will be 2,595 hryvnias. These figures reflect the state's commitment to ensuring a decent standard of living for those no longer able to work.

Eligibility for Pension Recalculation

In 2026, women with at least 30 years of insurance coverage and men with at least 35 years will be entitled to a pension recalculation. This means that long-time workers will see their payments increase, potentially easing their financial situation in old age.

Additionally, after turning 70, retirees will receive extra payments on top of their base pension:

  • 300 hryvnias per month starting at age 70;
  • 456 hryvnias per month starting at age 75;
  • 570 hryvnias per month starting at age 80.

These supplements are designed to provide extra financial help to older pensioners who need it most.

Overall, Ukraine's 2026 pension reforms aim to improve living conditions for the elderly and ensure they receive adequate social support.

The upcoming pension changes highlight the government's focus on enhancing social protection for older Ukrainians.

With increases in both the minimum wage and the subsistence minimum, these initiatives could help reduce the financial burden on retirees and improve their material well-being. Importantly, the new rules also factor in the length of a person's insurance record, which may encourage longer and more productive careers.
