Pensions 2300 versus 100 thousand Hryvnias: a call in Ukraine to revise the minimum pension.

The head of the parliamentary Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, Danilo Hetmantsev, called for a revision of the minimum pension in Ukraine. He noted this during his speech in the Verkhovna Rada. The disparity in pension amounts in the country is very substantial. Some former employees of the prosecution, judicial system, and civil service receive increased pensions that may exceed 100 thousand Hryvnias, while the basic pension amounts to only 2361 Hryvnias.

Of the average pension in Ukraine, which is 6341 Hryvnias, more than a third of pensioners have to spend less than 4000 Hryvnias per month.

The deputy emphasized the need to abolish special pensions for prosecutors, judges, and former officials, who retire very early and receive significant amounts. Hetmantsev also believes that increasing minimum pensions to 4000 Hryvnias per month is possible through the redistribution of funds and the decoupling of the economy. Ukraine is looking for ways to overcome the disparity in pension amounts. The high pensions of certain categories of citizens alongside minimal payments create serious challenges for social justice and the economic development of the country.
