Pensioners' Land Tax Relief in Ukraine for 2026

According to Novyny.live: Starting in 2026, Ukrainian pensioners may be exempt from paying land tax under specific conditions. This relief applies to plots used for personal farming, residential houses, and utility buildings. The measure aims to ease financial pressure on older adults during challenging economic times. Land taxes in Ukraine are levied by local authorities, and exemptions are periodically updated to support vulnerable groups.

Eligibility Criteria

Specifically, pensioners can avoid paying tax on land plots up to 2 hectares designated for personal farming. Additionally, the maximum tax-free plot sizes are as follows:

  • Up to 0.10 hectares in cities;
  • Up to 0.25 hectares in villages;
  • Up to 0.15 hectares in towns;
  • Up to 0.10 hectares for summer house construction;
  • Up to 0.01 hectares for an individual garage;
  • Up to 0.12 hectares for gardening.

If a plot exceeds the established limit, tax is due only on the portion above the threshold. The exemption takes effect from the month following its formal approval. To claim the benefit, pensioners must apply to the tax authority with a document proving their status, such as a pension certificate.

Furthermore, military personnel, war veterans, and individuals with Group I or II disabilities are also exempt from land tax. Property owners will receive tax notices from the tax service by July 1, 2026, detailing the amount owed. These changes are designed to reduce the financial burden on the most vulnerable segments of the population.

Introducing land tax benefits for pensioners and other vulnerable groups is a significant step toward social support.

This policy can help alleviate the financial strain on older people, who often struggle to meet their basic needs. It is crucial for pensioners to take advantage of these exemptions by contacting the relevant authorities to confirm their eligibility and receive guidance.
