The US Department of Defense has expanded the program to preserve bat populations on American military bases. In recent years, the number of bats in some areas of the country has decreased by almost 90%. Therefore, over the next five years, the program aims to identify bat species that are disappearing or endangered at more than 300 military facilities. The Pentagon is obliged to ensure the protection of animals residing on its bases.

Biologist from the US Army Corps of Engineers, Pat Wolf, stated that this work is important for managing land and natural resources at US Department of Defense sites.

Pentagon specialists are conducting research on bats at American bases and analyzing how military exercises impact their populations.

The Department of Defense program includes the use of artificial intelligence-based software that helps detect mice and enhance the safety of animal habitats on American bases.

This program also has another goal - involving bats to assist the US Armed Forces during wartime. In the past, they have used bats to destroy enemy cities. After the explosion in Pearl Harbor in 1941, Mexican bats were recruited and armed with explosive devices to carry out this mission.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin suggested the possible involvement of third countries in the war in Ukraine. This also concerns the presence of North Korean soldiers in the combat zone.
