Zelensky and Trump meet in Florida: can we expect a breakthrough in negotiations.
According to ТСН: Since Donald Trump became President of the United States in January this year, he has met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky three times in an attempt to find a way to end Russia's war against Ukraine.
The American publication NBC News reflects on whether the summit in Florida will be a turning point or will it again remain just another stage of strategic diplomacy, from which Zelensky is unlikely to achieve concrete results.
The article notes that all previous meetings between Trump and Zelensky were accompanied by high hopes, but did not bring significant changes, and in some cases even delayed the resolution of the issue.
Expectations for the meeting
According to information from a Ukrainian official familiar with the preparations for the meeting, in addition to issues of ensuring Ukraine's security, the economic reconstruction of the war-torn country will be discussed.
The possibility of a joint press conference between Trump and Zelensky is also being considered, not to announce new initiatives, but to summarize the results of the meeting.
At the same time, the leaders of the two countries hope to express something new, considering the lengthy negotiations that have not led to significant results, and the enormous number of casualties.
Willingness to compromise
Moritz Breik, a senior fellow at the Center for Advanced Security, Strategy, and Integration Research, noted that 'what we are talking about now has much more substance than before.'
'Zelensky has clearly demonstrated his willingness to compromise, to reach some sort of agreement, especially when there is a prospect for future stability with U.S. security guarantees,' he told NBC News.
The expert also emphasized that the main question is Russia's willingness to yield or agree to a peace plan that would be acceptable to Ukraine.
'This is what we cannot see at the moment,' he added.
On Sunday, Zelensky noted in his post on Telegram that 'a lot can be resolved before the New Year,' but 'whether decisions will be made depends on our partners.'
Last week, he outlined a new proposal that envisions a possible withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbas without recognizing these territories as Russian and the creation of a demilitarized zone in their place.
In addition, Zelensky seeks legally binding security guarantees from the U.S. that would prevent further invasions by Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already arrived in Miami, where he is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump on the evening of December 28.
This meeting is an important event, as both leaders are trying to find common ground in the context of the complex situation in Ukraine. Issues of security and economic reconstruction remain priorities for discussion, and we hope that this meeting will help ensure progress in settling the conflict.
