Ceasefire in Gaza: US and HAMAS Close to Finalizing Agreements.
The ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip is nearing completion
The temporary ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip is in the final stages of being coordinated during direct negotiations between representatives of the US and HAMAS in Qatar, The National reports.
According to sources, the agreement includes a 21-day ceasefire, the release of six HAMAS hostages, and the restoration of humanitarian aid to the enclave. An Israeli delegation arrived in Cairo on Monday to discuss the logistics for resuming aid and the arrival of Palestinian prisoners in Egypt.
'Significant progress has been made towards an agreement during direct negotiations between senior HAMAS officials and American mediators led by Adam Baleler,'- a source noted. The agreement could be announced very soon.
HAMAS demands an extension of the ceasefire for 70 days and guarantees regarding the start of negotiations for the end of the war in Gaza and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave. Decisions on these matters may be made later.
Reports indicate that the war in Gaza, which began in 2023, has caused significant casualties and destruction in the enclave. The previous ceasefire ended on March 1, but the conflict intensified again on March 18 after Israel resumed military actions.
The recent events in the Gaza Strip are taking place ahead of US President Donald Trump's visit to the Middle East, which may have great significance for the future developments in the region.
