The state's debt on court decisions regarding pensions amounted to more than 70 billion UAH.

The state owes more than 70 billion UAH in pension payments as a result of court decisions for the period since 2013. This information is provided by Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.

The problem arose due to significant changes in the legislation, which affected the methodology for calculating pensions. This led to mass appeals by citizens to the courts to restore their rights to due pension payments.

However, the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) systematically does not fulfill court decisions due to lack of funding. In an attempt to resolve the situation, 360 million UAH was allocated in 2023 to repay the debt, which allowed the execution of only 6,586 court decisions. But in 2024, payments have not yet begun due to the PFU budget not being approved.

According to Lubinets, the state cannot immediately repay the entire debt. Full compliance with court decisions is possible only with proper budget allocation.

At the same Time, the government announced plans to update the pension system, including the introduction of a point-based system for calculating pensions. This reform aims to address inequalities among pensioners of different retirement years.

The author of the article expressed hope that in developing the new concept of pension reform, the Ministry of Social Policy and the government will take into account the shortcomings of previous reforms, which will make the pension system fairer and more transparent.

Recall that it was previously reported that Ukrainians are massively filing lawsuits due to low pensions, and the Pension Fund of Ukraine has lost thousands of cases.
