VAKS chooses a preventive measure for MP Laba: he is suspected of bribery for voting

According to ТСН: The High Anti-Corruption Court is considering the preventive measure for MP Mykhailo Laba, a representative of the "Servant of the People" faction. The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office suspects him of being involved in a criminal group that controlled voting on legislative bills in the Verkhovna Rada for bribes.

Laba arrived at the hearing together with lawyer Serhiy Denysenko. SAP prosecutor Borys Vasylenkov requested a closed hearing, arguing that it was a matter of safety for the participants in the investigation and the possibility of identifying new suspects. The preventive measure may be chosen in the form of bail.

Next hearings

Today, a hearing regarding MP Yevhen Pivovarov is also scheduled.

Information about other suspects

It is worth recalling that on December 30, the High Anti-Corruption Court chose a preventive measure in the form of bail for MP Yuriy Kisiel. The consideration of the case was held in closed mode, and the amount of the bail remained unnamed. Kisiel is one of five deputies who have been charged with bribery.

According to NABU and SAP, the criminal group was created in 2021. Allegedly, the suspects were giving instructions to other deputies regarding voting for certain laws through a WhatsApp group. Five people's representatives were receiving bribes ranging from $2,000 to $20,000 for each successfully organized vote. The amount of the bribe was an indicator of the effectiveness of the votes and depended on the number of supported laws and the presence of deputies at plenary meetings.

Law enforcement agencies have not yet disclosed the names of the suspects, but sources claim that they relate to deputies from the "Servant of the People" faction. Among them may be Yevhen Pivovarov, Ihor Nehulevskyi, Yuriy Kisiel, Mykhailo Laba, and Olha Savchenko. The day before, searches were carried out in the Infrastructure and Transport Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, which these MPs belong to.

The situation regarding the suspect deputies reflects a serious problem of corruption in the Ukrainian parliament. The continuation of investigations and court hearings underscores the importance of fighting against bribery at all levels of power. There is a growing expectation in society for strict measures to restore trust in the parliamentary corps and state institutions.
